Improving Your Handstand – The Importance of Core Strength

Handstands are a lot of fun, and one of our favorite tricks to share while having fun in the park or at a party (just make sure you embark on your handstands before the beer kegs come out)!

So, it’s not surprising that we’re often asked: “How can I get better at doing a handstand?”

Rough video transcript
Handstands are a huge part of what we do in GMB. In fact, we have a full component on it in our Floor One program. However, maybe you’re still struggling with the handstand? That’s OK – it’s not easy.

In a handstand you need to balance yourself on your hands. That’s obvious and a lot of people think that the most important thing is simply balancing yourself upside down. However, the most important thing to understand is that core strength is essential. Even if you think you’re having a “balance” problem, more often than not, that imbalance is actually caused by a weak core.

So how do we strengthen the core? We practice the hollow body!

Get the hollow body hold down, and you’ll be well on your way to a stronger core. And a better handstand.

Get the hollow body hold down, and you’ll be well on your way to a stronger core and a better handstand.
