The Gold Medal Bodies Team

Remember when you had to pick teams for dodgeball in school?

We do, and it was never pretty. You’d want to choose your friends, but you knew that, in the end, you needed the strongest and meanest players on your team if you wanted to survive until the end of recess. Luckily for us, we have stronger friends now.

When we decided to come together and create Gold Medal Bodies, we immediately realized that our combined skills, knowledge, strengths, and experience were nearly comparable with those of the A-Team, making us a possible threat to that group in terms of merchandising and future TV/movie appearances.

Before introducing the individual members, please allow us to assure anyone reading this who happens to have ties to the A-Team that we have no intention of launching a line of action figures or video games. Though we are currently in negotiations regarding a talk show and an endorsement of a popular fast food chain, we will bow out of those projects should they interfere with any prior A-Team commercial interests.

Ryan Hurst

Ryan is the mythic hero of the GMB epic saga. As Program Director, it’s his job to personally develop and test each of our programs before releasing them into the wild. One of the foremost experts in the world of strength and movement, Ryan makes sure that everything we do puts health first and gets results.

GMB all comes down to this for me: I want to be able to do what I want, where I want, and whenever I want without fear of injury.  This means training cool skills that make me strong physically and mentally for my family, friends, and loved ones.  Is there anything else?

Background/Credentials: Holds black belts in Kendo, Judo, and Shorinji Kempo and practiced 10 years as a competitive gymnast. Former Education Director for RMAX/CST.

Favorite Beer: Boxed wine

Favorite TV Shows: Burn Notice, Hee Haw

Andy Fossett

Andy’s our Executive Director and also works as chief engineer and strategist to keep the GMB wheels turning and pointed in the right direction. He not only loves it when a plan comes together, but pities the fool when it doesn’t.

We need more strong people in this world, but strength shouldn't have to be serious all the time. I want to make real strength available to real people with less hype and more doing cool stuff. GMB is a training curriculum and an attitude I believe can transform bodies and lives.

Background/Credentials: Former professional educator and funkiest bass player in Atlanta. Has taught thousands of martial artists on four continents. Internet Ninja.

Favorite Beer: Maui Brewing Company CoCoNut Porter

Favorite Song: Take a Letter, Maria (Yes, really)

Jarlo Ilano

As Product Manager, Jarlo is responsible for reining Andy and Ryan in when they start getting too many crazy ideas. His background in physical therapy and coaching bring an extra layer of practicality to GMB programs and methods. He’s also the guy you’ll talk to about setting up seminars.

The GMB approach inspires me, because after all these years of training for so many different goals, the one goal that has always remained is being strong and conditioned for all the activities I do with friends and family.

Background/Credentials: Physical therapist (MPT) since 1998 and board certified orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) with the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Extensive postgraduate training in neck and back rehabilitation.  JKD Unlimited/MMA Instructor, Battlefield Kali Stick and Knife Instructor.

Favorite Beer: Guinness

Favorite Sport: Wrestling with his twin boys

Support Staff

Despite our A-Team-like skills, we can’t do it all. Luckily, we don’t have to.

Amber Mira

In order to prevent Gold Medal Bodes from being a total sausage party, we added Amber to round out the team in early 2011. She’s your first point of contact with emails and technical or service issues.

Iron Man had Pepper Potts - GMB has me. I'm the behind-the-scenes, assistant to the chief, manage-the-details lady, and I also make sure everyone leaves with warm and fuzzy feelings. I like that GMB focuses on building strength incrementally using simple tools and easy-to-follow guidance that I can work on at home, making strength and flexibility more attainable goals.

Background: A Hawaii native and animal lover, Amber has done almost everything: photography, publishing, design, and probably more stuff she hasn’t bothered telling us about yet. Most importantly, she’s awesome.

Favorite beverage: Coconut water or mimosas

Favorite guilty pleasure: Hulu or Netflix marathons after a season has finished. Her latest obsession? Mad Men

GMB Monkey

The GMB Monkey represents the spirit of daily practice and genuine fun. He’s a leader in his tribe and an inspiration to monkeys and humans alike. Unfortunately, he also smells like a monkey, but he’s a lot of fun at parties, so we let his hygiene issues slide.

I like bananas a lot. And swinging from trees. GMB gives me a lot of bananas, and I like meeting all the cool people that train with them.

Background: Grew up in the jungle (which explains his table manners) but gave up the trees in search of a steady paycheck and better beer selection in the big city. Met up with Ryan while visiting relatives in Japan and knew he’d found his calling after Ryan beat him in a pull-up competition at the local playground. He joined our staff that very day.

Favorite beverage: coffee (seriously, monkeys love coffee)

Favorite movie: Every Which Way But Loose
