We always dress alike. Company policy.
The Gold Medal Bodies approach to training is based on five simple truths:
- Fitness is a skill.
- Size without strength is a shame.
- Strength without skill is a waste.
- Being tough isn’t always enough.
- Training can (and should) be fun.
Gold Medal Bodies specializes in teaching regular people how to develop the total body control demonstrated by elite athletes – without devoting your life to training.
GMB strength means being able to perform confidently and proudly in everything we do.
And if we happen to look good doing it, that’s a side effect we’re prepared to deal with.
What can we do for you?
A lot. Stick with us, and you can expect:
- to be stronger than you thought possible
- to find yourself performing skills and tricks you’ve never imagined
- to do the things you love doing better

I really like what you GMB fellas do. As well as the great programs and the excellent newsletter, I love the humour too. I find it difficult to take myself seriously most of the time, and I get the impression you do too, which I like. I also love the fact that you haven’t sold your soul to the email spam devil, where you send me a link every day to a new program by one of your “good buddies” who just happens to be giving you a commission.

We’re the good guys, and we take care of our people. “Our people,” meaning the GMB Posse.
What’s this all about?
Gold Medal Bodies is a curriculum of strength and skill building courses. We emphasize practicing gymnastic skills with the goal of developing body control for fitness and sport.
Gold Medal Bodies offers a holistic approach to building the kind of strength you need for real life. That could mean any number of things to different people, so we built our GMB Method around the most effective means we know of all-around strength and skill development – gymnastic training.
Don’t get confused here, because while we practice gymnastic skills, we actually don’t train for Gymnastic Sport.
Gymnastic Sport is a whole thing of its own, complete with rules, uniforms, and a very high-profile event you may have heard of once or twice: The Olympics. We’re not claiming to be Olympians, and we won’t promise to turn you into one either. But what we can be sure of is that gymnastic training is the most efficient method for mastering the art of learning skills and building the specific strength you need for whatever it is you need to do in your life.
We’re building this curriculum on the foundation of our years of experience in martial arts, gymnastics, yoga, and strength training. Collectively, we’ve taught tens of thousands of people around the world through our courses, coaching, and live seminars. With backgrounds in physical therapy, education, and personal training, we not only know how to get results, but we can teach you how to get them safely and consistently.
We believe that fitness is a skill, and it’s a skill we test daily.
Simply put, the Gold Medal isn’t for doing the most work or running the fastest race. It’s for having the strength to do what needs to be done for our loved ones without fear of failure or injury.
Who the hell are these people?
Remember when you had to pick teams for dodgeball in school?
We do, and it was never pretty. You’d want to choose your friends, but you knew that, in the end, you needed the strongest and meanest players on your team if you wanted to survive until the end of recess. Luckily for us, we have stronger friends now.
Ryan Hurst

GMB all comes down to this for me: I want to be able to do what I want, where I want, and whenever I want without fear of injury. This means training cool skills that make me strong physically and mentally for my family, friends, and loved ones. Is there anything else?
Background/Credentials: Holds black belts in Kendo, Judo, and Shorinji Kempo and practiced 10 years as a competitive gymnast.
Favorite Beer: Boxed wine
Favorite TV Shows: Burn Notice, Hee Haw
Even More About Ryan
On the off chance you just can’t know enough about the guy doing most of the teaching around here (and we think it’s important to learn as much as possible about your coaches), we’ve written a bit about Ryan’s background on the blog.
Ryan’s story is actually kind of interesting and probably not what you’d expect. For example, he went about 18 years without any ring training between college and forming GMB.

Andy Fossett

We need more strong people in this world, but strength shouldn’t have to be serious all the time. I want to make real strength available to real people with less hype and more doing cool stuff. GMB is a training curriculum and an attitude I believe can transform bodies and lives.
Background/Credentials: Former professional educator and funkiest bass player in Atlanta. Has taught thousands of martial artists on four continents. Internet Ninja.
Favorite Beer: Maui Brewing Company CoCoNut Porter
Favorite Song: Take a Letter, Maria (Yes, really)
Jarlo Ilano

The GMB approach inspires me, because after all these years of training for so many different goals, the one goal that has always remained is being strong and conditioned for all the activities I do with friends and family.
Background/Credentials: Physical therapist (MPT) since 1998 and board certified orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) with the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Extensive postgraduate training in neck and back rehabilitation. JKD Unlimited/MMA Instructor, Battlefield Kali Stick and Knife Instructor.
Favorite Beer: Guinness
Favorite Sport: Wrestling with his twin boys
Amber Mira

Iron Man had Pepper Potts – GMB has me. I’m the behind-the-scenes, manage-the-details lady, and I make sure everyone comes away with warm and fuzzy feelings. I like that GMB focuses on building strength incrementally using simple tools and easy-to-follow guidance that I can work on at home, making strength and flexibility more attainable goals.
Background: A Hawaii native and animal lover, Amber has done almost everything: photography, publishing, design, and probably more stuff she hasn’t bothered telling us about yet. Most importantly, she’s awesome.
Favorite beverage: Coconut water or mimosas
Favorite guilty pleasure: Hulu or Netflix marathons after a season has finished. Her latest obsession? Mad Men
